COVID-19 antigen is a direct virus diagnostic test that detects structural virus particles in respiratory specimens (nasopharyngeal swab). It is not necessary to be fasting.<\/p>\n

The great advantage is the response time in the result (minutes) and the high sensitivity in the first days of infection. Sensitivity in the first days of infection (0-3 days) is 100% and from 4-7 days 90%. This allows an urgent diagnosis of those patients with symptoms and their contacts.<\/p>\n

1. A negative result does not necessarily indicate the absence of active infection, since the infection could have occurred more than 7 days ago and not be detected, nor does it exclude that the patient has been exposed to the virus and after overcoming the disease there is no viral presence. In case of suspicion of a past infection, serological study of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 is recommended.<\/p>\n

2. Immediately consult your family doctor or health center in case of a positive test result. Wear a facemask, use extreme hand hygiene and isolate yourself at home unless your physician instructs you to go to a medical facility.
